ACSIPA School Leaders:
As most of you have heard, the House Leadership have created a significant bill to dismantle school choice as we know it in PA. Its intent is to set up budget negotiations to remove funding from school choice options, and in particular EITC/OSTC/EDS. It is called HB2632. Today it passed the 2nd consideration with no amendments. It is lined up for the final passage vote as early as Monday. We are encouraging the following:
Plan to get information to your school community using multiple tools including using our ACSI Voter Voice Campaign HERE.
Communicate to your Representatives and Senators: Use this LINK to find who they are. Voice opposition to HB2632 and support for EITC/OSTC/EDS. Ask your leadership team, board, and school families to call. Here is verbiage (as well as SAMPLE COMMUNICATION) you can use:
"I am calling in opposition to HB2632. I'm calling on behalf of the XXX number of students, families, and staff at XXXX Christian School. This legislation will immediately cut 30,000 student scholarships and over the next couple of years eliminate the 270,000 student scholarships funded through these programs. That's 15% of ALL K-12 students in PA that receive some support of educational school choice options through these programs. Please don't be the generation of legislatures that dismantles these life changing scholarships."
Join Us Monday Morning to Advocate for EITC: Phil Puleo will be leading a group of Christian school leaders that are gathering at the Capitol on Monday, June 22 at 8:30 AM at 223 State Street in Harrisburg. Here is a Advocacy Itinerary (LINK). We already have 10 people going. We could also use some help scheduling appointments. Please see the list of names and phone numbers. You can use the following script when calling:
"I'm XXXX from XXXX Christian School. A group of Christian school leaders are coming to the Capitol on Monday. We want to speak with the Representative (or Senator) to discuss our opposition to HB2632."
Use the schedule to enter names and location. Please record your contact attempt. You are welcome to add to the list of other representatives.
Thanks for your help. This is the greatest risk to EITC/OSTC/EDS in the past decade. We have hope that this legislation will not progress farther in the Senate. However, it will be a DANGEROUS TOOL during the upcoming budget negotiations. And there is not a beneficial provision that should be added to the EITC/OSTC/EDS program.
Thanks for "standing in the gap" to help ensure that the 25th year of EITC is not the year that it is dismantled or destroyed.
